Sunny Days Camp

“We are always working towards eradicating stigma, increasing epilepsy awareness, and creating positive relationships in a fun and interactive way as early as possible. Sunny Days Camp allows room for that to occur by creating opportunities for children living with epilepsy and their siblings to have fun, be active, and be creative! Through Sunny Days Camp and the many adventures and activities, children tend to improve on their self-esteem, confidence, and overall well-being before September rolls around.” ~ Jasmine Morante

Remember going to summer camp when you were young? Making new friends you would keep forever, the joy you experienced and the fun and adventurous activities that refreshed your mind and body?

Epilepsy South Central Ontario’s Sunny Days Camp is a camp for children living with epilepsy aged 5-14 years, as well as for their siblings. The purpose of Sunny Days Camp is to provide a safe and fun way to engage and promote friendships and self-esteem among children with epilepsy, while at the same time encouraging teamwork and developing leadership skills. Siblings are included to give parents a break and to allow siblings to connect with other siblings of kids with epilepsy. One of the important benefits of the camp is that the staff has seizure first aid training, CPR training, and HIGH FIVE training for preventing, identifying and managing kids with seizure disorders, which is a huge comfort for parents.

The camp runs for 8 weeks in Mississauga and 2 weeks in Hamilton. In addition, transportation from Brampton is offered for 2 weeks. Off-site outings are organized and daily fun and engaging activities such as sports and arts and crafts in the park.

After a Sunny Days Camp experience, teachers have observed that these children start the new school year with enthusiasm and increased self-esteem – it’s an opportunity to continue their learning outside of the traditional classroom.

Epilepsy South Central Ontario makes the camp accessible for all by making it affordable and we will not turn away a family due to cost. Sunny Days Camp is run solely on donations and grants and we are very appreciative of the funding provided by Care-Alive: The Caroline Cunningham Foundation for Epilepsy. You can also help support the ongoing operation of the camp by making a donation.
